    Very interesting.  It’s 20 on the bottom equal 21 on the top. I agree 39 degrees 14 minutes.  At 13’ the Vernier is a touch to the left; at 14 it’s a touch to the right.   It’s good point is that because it covers such a large part of arc, it’s probably easier to read for those with less than perfect sight.  I suppose that to enable the extra length and thus ease of reading the vernier, the ‘star’ mark has to be in the centre to keep it in line with the centre line of the arm.  I suppose there’s no reason why you shouldn’t distribute your vernier that way. Proving the geometry will be an interesting exercise.   DaveP
