For a while I have been wondering about a simple economical way to display digital information in the sight tube or telescope of a sextant, along the lines of a compass monocular, rangefinder, or hybrid optical digital rangefinder. Of course there are things other than azimuth one could overlay, a stop clock, some star info, a camera looking at the micrometer and arc, an artificial horizon? I am not saying this is necessary, just a bit of fun. I just came across an excellent "how to" on the construction of an economical hybrid (camera style) range finder using two lenses and a prism. It's a great blog post and video covering a bit of history, the optics and how to make it with standard catalogue parts and a bit of 3D printing. https://volzo.de/thing/hybridviewfinder/, including the calculations for the design of the optics. I thought NavList readers who wanted to try an optics project but were lacking the experience might appreciate this. Best wishes Bill Lionheart
