Frank,
During the nineties, I made a v4 version of my ASTROLAB package, to answer the need of a French agency. The idea was to add a loop over the 5 original programs in order to automatically identify the stars. Within ASTROLAB, 30 stars of suitable magnitude were tabulated. They had sufficient angular distances to be separated from each other. This v4 version was running correctly, but there were a number of critical cases when zodiac stars and planets could be confused. More information was necessary, e.g. about estimated position or about observed magnitude. This could be solved by a subjective rating of the magnitude. But for security reason, I did not offer this v4 version to a wide audience.
