I'm a bit amused by emergency navigation of a life raft. If you have a sat phone it probably has a GPS. If you don't how does a position help. You are presumably not in a sailing dory but a modern inflatable life raft with water ballast. You are going with the current
If you have a VHF radio it is unlikely your position by sextant will add to the fact that you are in VHF range from 3 feet AGL.
But then what do I know. Help me.

I'm sticking with what Mrs. Anderson taught me in 4th grade, long multiplication. I looked at the other ways, which I didn't even know existed, and they are interesting but not particularly compelling to switch horses at this late date. I haven't done long multiplication for a long time so the first few examples were slow but then the speed came back. BUT, on a boat sailing at 6 knots, you have lots and lots of time to do the multiplication. And, in an emergency, drifting at 1/4 knot in your life raft, you have all the time in the world.gl

And, well, you would not need "cheating" as you professed, Vedic can be done w/o a calculator easily. If I, the slowest multiplicator on the list, can you surely can multiply with Vedic easily, too.
