Re: Doing my homework. Part 1 [FINISHED]

    Dear Frank,

After lots of blunders and cheating with Casio - I got the fix for these sights: 37°25'N;66°36'W.

The most recent and most shamefull blunder was counting the miles on the plotting sheet (for longtitude) in the opposite direction!... :)

Without the Casio I'd definately put the vessel on rocks. The Hcs I was getting were mostly quite different from the strict calculations. I will look into it some more.

My LOPs (as are by tables):

    • Sirius: Az = 207°28.5'; Hc = 31°01.9'; Hd = -9.1nm
    • Regulus: Az = 130°58.5'; Hc = 55°42.1'; Hd = +13.7nm
    • Jupiter: Az = 109°30.4'; Hc = 18°28.1'; Hd = +5.4nm
    • Aldebaran: Az = 261°09.2'; Hc = 35°35.9'; Hd = -30.2nm

    LOPs with Hc by Casio:

    • Sirius: Az = 207°28.5'; Hc = 31°23'; Hd = +12nm
    • Regulus: Az = 130°58.5'; Hc = 55°42.1'; Hd = +13.7nm
    • Jupiter: Az = 109°30.4'; Hc = 18°32.5'; Hd = +10nm
    • Aldebaran: Az = 261°09.2'; Hc = 36°03.5'; Hd = -2.8nm

Strange enough, all the Az were quite close to the truth - even by table.

Thank you, Frank, for the nice lesson!

Now I'm starting the next sights.

    Warm regards,

    Tony

    PS

I noticed that the scales on the 37° plotting sheet border are different size. I did not know which size to choose for each Hd. I guess - I must have had Hd adjusted to the relevant azimuth angle value (interpolating Hd between the narrower longtitude size and longer lattitude size).
