Carl,
Sad news, but thanks for passing it on. Please let us know exactly when the tribute will be held.
I met Don in the late '80s or early '90s when he did a presentation for my astronomy club. I later asked him to do a presentation for the Middletown Power Squadron, which he graciously agreed to do, and the rest is history. I will miss dropping in on him with my dog at his office at the planetarium, and he will be sorely missed at our events. Let us hope for a miracle.

I'm very sad to have to pass on this news from Mystic Seaport:
Don Treworgy, the longtime head of the planetarium at Mystic Seaport,
has been diagnosed with a very quickly progressing cancer,
cholangiocarcinoma. Sadly, his outlook may be a few months, at most.
NavList members will be familiar with Don's hospitality and
contributions during the Celestial Navigation Weekends held at Mystic,
but it is difficult to sum up his many, many contributions to
astronomy and navigation education through the Seaport Planetarium
over the last 35 years. Mystic Seaport will be renaming the
planetarium in his honor.
A tribute to him was planned for next week at the Seaport, but Don's
doctors have prescribed "no crowds" due to his lowered immunity while
undergoing chemotherapy. The Seaport hopes to do the tribute in
January sometime.
Don's mailing address for cards or notes is:
91 Noble Ave
Noank, CT 06340
or don.sky@att.net
In addition, Don and Lynn have set up a webpage to allow friends to be
informed of Don's progress.
The page is on a site called CarePages. You DO have to become a
"member": list your e-dress and compose [and verify] a password. There
is a photo gallery, and the opportunity to select that your message be
viewed only by the page's "manager"(Don), rather than the full
"membership".
To access this information, log on to CarePages at:
http://www.carepages.com/
select CarePages website name =
dontreworgy
Don has received many gratifying notes, cards, calls, plus well-wishes
through messengers. Obviously, he cannot respond to each in a timely
manner, and so the CarePages postings can be a connection that might
otherwise not be made.
