    Don’t leave them at work when you give up flying.  With the RAF Mk4, if you imagine the 800kt scale divided by 100 you can use it with your boat up to a cross tide of about 1.3kts.  If you’ve a second one to mess up, Snowpake out the azimuth ring and divide it into 12 hours.  One hour equals 30 degrees. If you draw a slide with horizontal lines like a Mears slide, you can use it to work out tidal heights using the sinusoidal rule.  Of course, it’s a bit embarrassing if you suddenly want to use them in the air again.  I bet some clever chap is already working out how you could use one to calculate the average declination of the Sun.  Dave
