Yes, I even removed that screw and still had to press very hard to release the worm gear. Plastic gets old and brittle and looses it's restoration capabilities.
Plan A - is to use my needle files to carve a "hinge" in the plastic bridge until I can lift the worm gear without getting a cramp in my hand.
Plan B - is to remove the bridge in its entirety and fabricate a metal strap as in Pike's photo. The hole in the sextant arm (you show it clearly in your photo at 36-degees) is a mystery. It doesn't
align with anything, but is in a convenient location to accomodate a metal strap.
Plan C - is to add the sextant to my collection and leave it be; after all, I know where I am !
