There is a news article in fox mentioning a new photo of Earharts plane. It shows a metal window patch that is claimed to be the one they found on an Island that could have been her crash site. Any afficianados care to chime in about this?

Ric Gillespie and TIGHAR are very good at recycling old news. Earlier this year, TIGHAR held a news conference featuring that piece of scrap aluminum which has been kicking around since 1991. Coincidentally, they were raising money for their next expedition.
I am not sure what new evidence is provided by the Miami photograph. A decade ago, Ric was writing about documentation of the rear window, and how it had been 'skinned over' in Miami by Pan Am workers. The photo in the Fox story simply confirms what was already well known. It does add the suggestion that the rivet patterns will match, yet to my eye, the photo is not of sufficient resolution to show the rivets.
And just before this photo surfaced, TIGHAR had issued their latest exhaustive research report on this scrap metal. One of their own researchers concluded:
Monty Fowler: "To me, the most relevant new fact that developed as a result of this field trip was the unanimous conclusion that 2-2-V-1 is NOT a USAAF field-applied or field-depot level repair. It was created under controlled conditions in a factory. That narrows down the point of origin possibilities considerably."
