All publicity is good publicity.  In Napoleonic times a shipwrecked monkey washed ashore at the fishing village of Hartlepool in the County of Durham.  None of the locals had ever seen a monkey before, so naturally it was assumed to be a French spy and hung.  Ever since the good people of Hartlepools have been known as ‘Monkey Hangers’ with all the commercial value that provides.

No doubt the value to Purdue University of this amazing achievement (and don’t forget the University contributed substantially to Earhart’s Electra in the 1930s) will remind Americans of Perdue’s place as a base for aviation learning.  So which nickname should they adopt to keep their PR flag flying?  ‘Tree Huggers’; not descriptive enough. I’m sure Navlist Members can come up with some more appropriate nicknames.  DaveP
