I saw those videos before. The helicopter approach to Howland doesn't accurately show the situation that Earhart was facing. If you have ever flown over the ocean looking for low islands you will recognize how cloud shadows can look a lot like an island as shown in the video. But when Earhart was approaching Howland the sky was clear for 40 NM around the island so no cloud shadows to deal with.
