    Re: Early Land Navigation.

Thank you Frank for explaining my question better and thank you to the others that have replied.

I have read a bit on our early Australian explorers, seen their kit on display and the ubiquitous AH is there amongst it all.

They obviously ignored the noon lat shot in the summer months or utilised some other method which I have yet to find in my reading.

My prime interest these days is land navigation despite living right next to the ocean which is to the south and of limited use.

I have made a Tbar pole with the cross bar set at eye level but have not as yet really tested it for accuracy over a number of sightings. The fence, jokes aside, has proven to be very accurate to the point when the suns movement to the north would allow me to utilise an AH I still tend to utilise the fence.

I do travel about a bit and often take a sextant with me and would prefer a Tbar if I can prove it is a reasonably accurate method. A work in progress right now. I do live in an area where there is not a lot of people about and plenty of open country so it is easy to take a sight en route.

    Thanks for all the replies.

    Frank A.
