You can stretch the time that noon sights are available beyond th normal 130 degree range of the arc, by doing noon by averaging. Take a sight an hour beforehand and leave the sexant set. As th sun declines get the time post noon, add pre to post and divide by 2. Results usually off by mere seconds.
