    Using the ephemerides from Frank Reed’s lunar calculator (as shown by Greg Rudzinski) in the ld_prec.xls spreadsheet (“precomputed lunar distance”) I obtain 27.1’ for the geocentric and 31.8’ for the topocentric lunar distance. Since the sum of the two semidiameters is 31.9’, I calculate that the Moon “bites into” the Sun disk by 0.1’. Neither refraction nor Earth’s oblateness are included in this calculation, and HP of Sun is taken to be zero.
