BREAKING NEWS! ECLIPSE PATH HAS CHANGED! Actually, someone has applied Moon limb and Earth topography corrections in a re-computation of the totality boundaries. The effect is as much as 2000 feet. I can't imagine any practical effect for eclipse watchers, since they will naturally get as far from the boundary as possible. The article mentions Earth rotation, but UT1-UTC is only -0.016 s, equivalent to a quarter second of arc in longitude. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-13275889/solar-eclipse-map-path-totality-shifts-towns-without-views.html Besselian elements are geocentric parameters for an eclipse or occultation. Invented by the great astronomer Bessel, they simplify computation of the contact times for a given location. The Almanac explains their use. https://archive.org/details/binder1_202003/page/n101/mode/2up?view=theater -- Paul Hirose sofajpl.com
