This is true in the Northern hemisphere, but in the Southern hemisphere the mmnemonic is:
When the moon is waxing (Croissant), it draws a C.
When the moon is waning (Décroissant), it draws a D.
In Southern mid-latitudes, the Moon doesn't lie.
