Here are some papers relating to a proposed Elephant Island relief expedition. There is reference to digital communication between Wellington and London (telegram) but the copy of Fairweather's orders was sent by snail mail - dated 10th Aug 1916 and received in NZ on 25th Sept 1916.
Note that even in 1916 copyright was important. I suspect that in 1916 the Admiralty was desperate for some good PR.
One of the letters was signed by W Graham Greene. Wikipedia states that the author Graham Greene as born in 1904 so (unfortunately) it was not him.
