Well a brief email. I am preparing my sloop for this season: engine, new ropes, etc. Not intellectually as interesting as this discussion but totally necessary.

In my application AstroNavigation.exe I use a matrix approach and the EoC is obtained using the rigenvalues and eigenvectors of the covariance matrix of the system of equations of circumferences of equal altitude.
The difference between of the science and the art of navigation, is practical expertise. That is what I called “nautical sense”. When sailing the EoC is in my mind to avoid dangers, not in a equation on paper or on screen. Just was trying to explain me... like in this message http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/most-probable-position-MPP-dangerous-misnomer-Andr%C3%A9sRuiz-feb-2019-g44209 if No dangers inside the ellipse or around: safe MPP. Otherwise be aware!!!
Is it possible that you give us the equation of the ellipse for 1 LoP, and for n=2 LoPs, and an example of those cases.
