This algorithms is very robust and one of my favorites.
Optimal Estimation of a Multi-Star Fix, C. De Wit. NAVIGATION, Vol.21 , No. 4, Winter 1974-75, pp 320-325
And adopted by the Nautical Almanac(USNO) and by HM Nautical Almanac Office (UK).
Years ago I exchanged some emails with Kaplan and Hohenkerk about this issue.
