Attached is my effort at sketching a 30° and 60° error ellipse using the Reed 114 approximation. It seems that the navigator is stuck with the error ellipse generated by the largest difference between LOPs with 90° being the maximum and creating the optimal circle. Any additional LOPs less than the largest azimuth difference will not change the ellipse size but will only serve to shift the ellipse center position and rotate the length axis slightly.
