I understand and agree. I was responding to the often sighted interest of using celnav to do things it can't or should not be used for. Like lacing a reef infested water. When you start looking at the sources of error they add up quickly. A hazy horizon on a pitching boat can have dramatic effects.
By the way my rule of thumb is 5 mile is in my 27 foot trimaran +/-2sd, in anything over 10 knots for wind in an open fetch. At 20 knots of wind I double it.
