    Frank,

The sextant I have is an Oaklet sextant made in Japan. I purchased it
new in Toronto in 1981 from Meridian Marine. They sold the Oaklet and
the Frieberger sextants for about the same price. I opted for the
larger Oaklet versus the smaller Frieberger.

It is very similar in appearance to a Tamaya and suspect it is the
same only made under the Oaklet name.

The certificate that came with it shows essentially 0 error. I have
never been able to detect or percieve an error in the instrument. If
there is an error in a sight I can normally trace to me botching it of
messing up the IE. Some star star data I took about a month ago showed
    the following errors:

    4 readings 0.0' error
    3 readings +0.1 error
    1 reading +0.2 error
    1 reading -0.2 error
    2 reading -0.3 error

I have started collecting some lunar distance data and tabulating it
in Excel in an effort to get a sense of the sort of accuracy one will
get with star moon, sun moon shots etc. I have some of Alex's data
tabulated as well. So far about 50 sights from Alex and 20 of mine.

So far it looks like getting those results in the +/- 0.2' range
reguires really good conditions and lots and lots of care when you
take the shot. The sights I took with the moon being very faint go to
hell which is what prompted this thread.
