The traditional reflecting media for use of a marine sextant on land were mercury and heavy motor oil. Simple devices were made to contain the liquids to shelter them from wind currents. Today, mercury is out of the question due to its toxicity and cost. The floating first surface mirror is an interesting idea assuming you can get or make one large enough.
Plath makes an artificial horizon bubble attachment for their sextants and Celestaire sells a generic one. Of course you can always obtain an aircraft bubble sextant for practice on land. I have several available for sale--see my posts.
