Indulging in this slightly-sterile argument as to whether the user of a Walker log can protect his log by showing an appropriate towing signal, I said there was no appropriate day-signal for a power vessel towing an object if the tow was less than 200 metres. All I had to go on at that time was a 1972 copy of colregs. Doug Royer replied- >George, without meaning to be argumenative, check the Colregs as there are >proscribed signals for a tow < 200 m in lenght. my response- Doug, don't apologise to this list for being argumentative. For many of us, it's a way of life. What would nav-L be without argument? I have checked a more recent edition of colregs (1993), and it's still the same, as I read it. The only day-signal required for a power-driven vessel is if the tow is greater than 200 metres, when tower and towed must both show a diamond. If I misunderstand this, or if the regs have changed since, perhaps Doug will put me right. George. ================================================================ contact George Huxtable by email at george@huxtable.u-net.com, by phone at 01865 820222 (from outside UK, +44 1865 820222), or by mail at 1 Sandy Lane, Southmoor, Abingdon, Oxon OX13 5HX, UK. ================================================================
