You bet, but there are several fuzzy variables in play. You might not have been a list member when this topic was floating around. I had a chance to test several production scopes and a prototype over a two week (or so) period. Alex also joined in the tests. I found all scopes exhibited a shift in both side alignment and IE when refocused. One follow up question is: if using the same eye, why refocus? Three variables: 1. Frank pointed out an excellent article in September 2005 "Sky & Telescope" magazine. Humans seem to suffer from night myopia to some degree. 2. A scope is not a high-tech camera optical device. Consequently a change in the color of the body observed can change the focal point, requiring a change in focus of the scope. 3. The shades (filters) issue. Different shades in the optical path MAY shift IE or side alignment. Hope that is of some help. Thanks for your thoughts on the optometrist. Hopefully he/she can put it into terms a layperson can understand and use.
