Great topic of conversation! I am a 20–year retired AF navigator, proudly flying the C-130 in combat and non-combat situations. Jeff Rock and I greatly valued your customized celestial navigation course and were able to successfully pass the checkride for the FAA flight navigator certificate a few years ago. Jeff’s mastery of celestial navigation, paired with my solid understanding of air navigation techniques, was also instrumental to me as I only took one of your courses. We also got help from a local planetarium. Bottom line, it took significant effort, learning, and star gazing to achieve this goal. Further, it required a monumental effort in both preparation and navigating the FAA channels to get the authorizations to get the checkride accomplished. I know of at least 1 additional NavList member who is working diligently towards this goal.
