I've seen the floating islands, where the refraction was so great, the base of the island was above the horizon.
That condition was noticed at Orient Point, wherein I was measuring the dip. The Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean will often have two different water temperatures, and oddball atmospheric conditions, which produce the abnormal refraction.
Never a full degree however.

Yeah, I have seen some weird things over sea ice, interesting refraction, "ice waves" on horizon and so on but rarely more than 6-7' or so.
Once I saw what to naked eye was two horizons, with binoculars I saw fogbank behind true horizon
