The altitude of the Moon could be measured at various time throughout the eclipse. The time between altitude measurements should be recorded accurately. The absolute time of these measurements can be estimated from the extent of the shadow of the earth on the Moon, using the time between measurements to optimise the fit. A fix can then be determined in the usual way.
