Took three sun shots,went off by almost 5 nm. As a total landsman and an complete ameteur I have to say I did everything I know to avoid inaccuracies. I have checked my IE with care,(Sun LL reads: +32'20", UL reads:-30'00"), Almanac lists today's SD value as 15.7', therefore the calculated IE value 1'10" is pretty much sound. I used the simple Altitude Corr. Tables to ease up the correction calculation and HO-249 were used to do the deduction work(I was told that the aero HO-249s are the less accurate version of HO-229). Any expert's idea on how to furthur improve the accuracy?
