Dave,
I would drill a whole in the same place on the opposite side of the mirror if it is plastic. Paper towel any drops of water on the surface. Rotate 180° for a second observation and then average the two. The image will not be as steady as the floating picture frame with the mirror resting on top.

Not suprisingly, clouds all day, so no testing.
