    Robert-

Rest assured, I am not trying to open the chamber. I took a look at it while restoring the A-12, but the lockrings were stuck,  and I wisely figured I should leave well enough alone.

I did however spotface the area around the filling port so it would seal better with the o-ring equipped screw. Hasn’t affected the operation at all, but it makes refilling a lot easier.

I’m curious about using silicone fluid – is this an advisable substitute for the Xylene for this type of sextant? I’ll give you a call to discuss.

    Paul:

If you are trying to open A-12 bubble chambers to clean then, don't, you'll ruin them.

Through many years of restoring these instruments, I have developed an effective procedure to clean their interiors.

Call me at 773-330-0860 and I'll explain.
