Cassie went aloft like a true sailor. I noticed call letters JBPN flying. Would these have been issue post Marconi ? Why the J ?
Actually pre-Marconi. From the early 1800's on, merchant ships were assigned identifying signal letters for flag communication. From ship lists of the late 1800's and early 1900's that I have seen, it appears that American ships were assigned codes beginning with J, K, or L.
JBPN is the identification that the Morgan flew during its working days.
