The ebook mentioned is at https://www.daileyint.com/seawar/seatoc.htm under "Collision at sea", near the bottom, is a hand drawn chart of the search pattern for Amelia Earhart conducted by the U.S.S. Lexington, 4 July-13 July 1937. Earhart is also mentioned in his work on Air Navigation at https://www.daileyint.com/ The ebook is not a novel but it's loaded with dates, events, and ship names. It might be a future resource for someone.
