I am looking at buying a Freiburger Trommel sextant with 4X40 telescope.
I have inspected the sextant however I noticed when looking through the telescope there appears to be spots of some sort. Inserting the shade reduces the smaller spots. These might be minor reflections however they are annoying. There is however bigger spot that almost looks like mould or a burn mark that appears in the centre of the telescope. Is faults like this common on Freiberger telescopes, or should the telescope be free of such odd spots? Its just that a new telescope will cost more than the asking price of the sextant!
