Hi Andy and Martin,
To complete the informations about surveying (or sounding) sextant, here is a photo of a russian sextant with only one horizon shade and one index shade. These shades are very clear so you can't sight the sun. This sextant is made from the structure of a SNO-M sextant and is less accurate (about 2 arc minutes) as written in the certificate.
On this sextant, it is not possible to fit a pentaprism.
Regards. Paul.
