I'm going to try to post occasional photos from the Navigation Weekend in Mystic over the next few days. I've put up a couple of pre-weekend photos on the web site at www.fer3.com/Mystic2006 One is of the Chicago skyline as seen from the Indiana beach. This has nothing to do with Mystic except that the weather was nice on my drive from Chicago to Mystic. Oh, and it's another example of that terrestrial refraction business with the Chicago skyscrapers. Bill? Get busy measuring! The second is a photo I took at Mystic Seapot on a day with threatening clouds a couple of weeks ago. We're hoping for clear weather! It's a nice late Spring scene at Mystic. The whaler Charles W. Morgan is the large bark at center. The old training ship Joseph Conrad is the small square-rigged ship to the right. And the two schooners near the center of the frame are Spirit of Massachusetts and Harvey Gamage. They conduct classes and tours along the coast and were visiting that weekend. It's one of those scenic photos where you can almost pretend it's 1885. Can you spot the items that don't belong in 1885? And for those of you joining us in Mystic, I've included a phone number where you can contact me if you get lost. Ya never know... they might pick this weekend to turn off GPS and THEN how will you find Mystic Seaport?! -FER 42.0N 87.7W, or 41.4N 72.1W. www.HistoricalAtlas.com/lunars
