I find your problem curious. I had what I believe is the same watch, except that mine has a white face. Excellent contrast with black numbers.

As to your signal problems, I'm in Pittsburgh,a bit to the west of your location, but not that far west. I've had no signal reception problems,and the watch keeps perfect time,so-far as I can tell.

I wonder as to the following. Do you place the watch in a west facing position, and are you within 2000 miles of Fort Collins, I assume that you are. Setting the watch in a westward facing direction, toward Colorado, seems to be a factor. As to moving to Colorado, who knows. Problems in Mass. problems in Colorado.
