I have loosely been following the G°G°R race, hoping to see some CN being performed. I have found a couple of streamed videos that I have been trying to make sense of. The race does not allow GPS use. One video shows a noon latitude being taken aboard SV Showgirl ( skipper Mara). I viewed the video on Youtube, date 22 Oct 2026, G°G°R Tracker. The YT time ( called out by Mara) seems to closely agree with the time on the tracker screen. There is a lot of drop-out of the video, but the audio is constant. Mara is standing on the cockpit sole when she seems to have obtained her noon altitude as she calls out 76° 44' at about 13:32 UTC. She can be seen taking a few sights prior to 13:32 UTC and after getting her noon latitude, she is seen working up the sight. The true LatLlon (which the skipper's cannot see) is shown at the the bottom of the G°G°R screen. It is hard to follow her work-up, but she seems to have looked up the altitude correction and adds that to her Hs. She then looks up the sun's declination (negative) and adds it to the Z.D.(negative) to get her latitude (S). She seems to realize that her result is not correct, but doesn't know why. The latitude she is working with is from 26 Oct 2026. I think she used the 26 in the year (2026) for the day of the month in Oct. giving an error in Lat of approx 1°. She also seems to have used her noon sight to get her "NCW" - not completely worthless, per Frank's labeling in his Mod CN course. Maybe other NavListers could look at this YT video and see what they think.

Not knowing the I.C of her sextant (I assume it is zero) and assuming her HOE is 8 ft, I calculate her Lat as:

     Hs = 76° 44'   Alt corr = 13°  Ho = 76° 57'  Z.D. = -13° 03'  Dec = -11° 11' (13:30 UTC)    Lat = Z.D. + Dec = -24° 14' = -24.23° (-24.39° GPS Lat)

There is another video of skipper Ertan Beskardes (SV Miss Beagle ) on 19 Oct 2026 (I think) on 19 Oct 2026. It's harder for me to understand what he is doing.

What (and how) did others get for their fixes. What tables did they seem to be using? How were there tecniques?
