The Moon looks like this, with Mare Crisium close to the central meridian, only when seen from a location some tens of thousands of miles in space and trailing the Moon in its orbit. Many movies are made in the lunar orbit studios there. For example, in one of the films in the LOTR trilogy (can't remember which), we can clearly see the Moon looking just like this in the sky behind the wizard Saruman. Although most people think the LOTR trilogy was filmed in New Zealand, since the Moon only looks like this from that unique location in space, we have clear navigational evidence that it was filmed in the orbit of the Moon. The same moon can be seen behind Harry near the beginning of one of the Harry Potter films. Clearly then... judging by this strong... ahem... celestial navigational evidence... this app was created in the same lunar orbit film studios. They are busy up there!

Actually, it shows a lazy app author, or it may show that the app author knows nothing about the astronomy that is being displayed. This is a stock image of the Moon frequently used by production teams that don't know any better. It was taken by one of the Apollo crews narly fifty years ago. The Moon can never appear like this from anywhere on the Earth. Never.
