This is quite a striking account, Robert. Thanks.
There is an uncharted rock pinnacle in the channel between Knapp and Pim Islands in British Columbia. Uncharted, but fairly well known to the yachting community, as several sailors have struck it. Easy enough to do, as that channel is near to the standard route for ferries to come from Vancouver to Victoria. If a big car ferry is coming in toward the docks (and even moreso if one is coming in just as another one is leaving), one can be inclined to duck between Knapp and Pim. But that is unwise. Though folks know there is a rock there, nobody has charted it, and it is anybody's guess as to just *where* in the channel between Knapp and Pim one ought to steer.
