    Hello Jackson

    That paper was interesting!

The paper states that the Week Number (WN) is a 10 bit quantity, numbering weeks since 6 Jan 1980.  That is unfortunate, since week number 1024 is fast approaching and will roll back over to 0 on 6 April 2019.  The paper is intended to warn users.

As the owner of a legacy GPS receiver, I am curious how this will affect me.  When I power up my device, it searches for signals based upon the current time, date and last position.  It will receive any signal, of course, but searches initially for the ones it expects to be there.  After it receives enough signals, it then updates position, time and date.

It takes much longer when the position changes (one was from NY to Melbourne, Australia) or the time has a measurable jump (stored without batteries or with dead ones).  In the end, it recovers.

It should be interesting to observe the sequence of events upcoming and how this affects performance in the future.

Thank you for bringing my attention to this

    Brad
