The Geometry of Elliptical Probability Contours for a Fix using Multiple Lines of Position
    From: Bill Lionheart
    Date: 2019 Aug 14, 16:12 +0100

Our paper (me, Peter Moses and Clark Kimberling) The Geometry of
Elliptical Probability Contours for a Fix using Multiple Lines of
Position has appeared in the Journal of Navigation. Wel lit has
appeared on line, it will be a while before it gets in teh paper
version and has a volume and page number

Hopefully non-subscribers can see it through this link?
https://tinyurl.com/y5uaswsk if this doesn't work I will find other
    ways to share it.

I had a chance to go through the basic ideas of how to construct the
major and minor axes of the ellipse and the vertices in an interlude
in Frank's excellent course in Lunars at Mystic Seaport last weekend.

[BTW I highly recommend the course. Even if you are not interested in
historical stuff shooting lunars is a great way to practice using your
sextant and check its accuracy (and your accuracy when using it). And
you can measure the lunar distance without a sea horizon from your
    back yard. ]
