Frank, most of the reasonably priced mechanical chronometers are for sale in countries of the former Soviet Union rather than India. The Soviet MX6 chronometer is a close copy of the WW II German Einheitschronometer (standard chronometer), are very well made and perform well. Unfortunately, chronometers do not travel well, even sometimes when properly packed, so they often arrive with broken balance or escape wheel pivots. Some spares are still available, but most people would want an "expert" to fit them and experts want to overhaul the whole instrument before being prepared to guarantee their repair, typically for $300 - $500. There are some early quartz crystal chronometers around for about a quarter of the price of MX6 chronometers, but most now on sale have much the same movements as in a kitchen clock.
