Greg,
Sorry if I confused everyone.
No RKJ (book World of My Own) did not have an electric clock, but a chronometer. He hardly mentions navigation, the big issue staying alive and afloat in a leaky wooden boat with maginal fastenings.
Moitessier (book, The Long Way) had the electric clock + a Rolex dive watch + good radio signals. He also had a far better boat, Joshua, 40 steel ketch. Would the race committee allow equipment other than that listed in RJK book? Why not Moitessier list?
He probably should and would have won if he had not decided to turn right at Cape Horn instead of left, and continued round the world to the Indian Ocean to "save his soul!"
Great guy!
PS. beware modern copies of 1960s wall clocks. They all seem to be quartz and therefore banned, but can't see why original non quartz electric clocks as per 1960's should not be allowed?
