In the Golden Globe race, and similar races that demand the use of
celestial navigation and prohibit GPS (GNSS in general), and in
assessment of logs for eg RYA Ocean Yacht Master, there is presumably
a need to check that the celestial position fixes are not faked.

As a purely academic exercise, I wonder what members' thoughts are on
how to catch any cheating.   Of course  one can add random errors to
measured altitudes and times, and one can even do second order faking
so that the statistics of the errors are "not too good".

Anything else that one could look out for if you actually know the
boat's position against time from other observations (eg they have a
tracker or AIS but they cannot access the position themselves).
