Bruce also mentioned using a tin can to slip over the sleeve. Not having a can large enough, I modified that by using a plastic frozen-orange-juice can. It's slit on one side and can be opened to slip onto the sleeve. It closes tightly enough to have no danger of slipping off and can fit over winter coats or a bare arm. I tape paper to it. It will slip over the arc of the sextant in the box for transport, with no danger to delicate components. Very handy.
