It occured to me that apart from any interest we may have in artefacts of the Pacific, we could marvel at them for another reason of our own - they are a physical link to Cook's ships that we can put our noses up close to and sniff at (hopefully for us if not them).
They were carried on-board the ships of Cook's expeditions as the cargo; thus a rare enough physical connection with that world.
