The recent conversation about polishing the frenel lens in a lighthouse triggered some memories for me and I was a bit suprised I haven't shared this here before. My grandfather restored a set of range lights that used to guide ships into the port of Green Bay, Wisconsin. I would tell the story but a few years ago they commisioned a short documentary that tells it much better than I could. On a personal note, I'm 34 and I can just barely remember when these lights sat in the parking lot of the Yacht Club. I can remember when they were moved and serious work began on them. My first taste of gin came as a "reward" after helping work on the lighthouses one sunday morning. My grandparents are Merlin and Fatima, You see them both in the video. The Grassy Island Range Lights are the last two wooden lighthouses on the Great Lakes and are on both the State and National Registor of Historic Places.
