Arc lengths on a sphere can be characterized by the path length in nm for example or by the angle subtended by the arc as seen from the center of the sphere. That is what Google Earth is is reporting.
Presumeably when one asks GE to connect two points on the surface of a sphere it follows a great circle path not a parallel of latitude. In any event the path connecting ponts 1 degree of longitude at 41N are not significantly different fron a great circle path.
Though it is 1 degree of longitude, the arc length is .7576 degrees.
