I have the identical sextant, but with a modern 3x telescope and associated mounting fitted, accompanied by Plath certificate No. 27337 (same number engraved on he arc) , dated February 27, 1946, which I acquired in 1947. I do not believe Plath was making vernier sextants in 1946 and cannot but wonder if this was a modernization of an existing sextant. Do you possibly have any any information on this. Regardless, it was and is a fine instrument – certainly the finest I'll ever own. Plse see attached
